House LA 2021
What the plan will do
- In 2021 house all 30,000 homeless people in our city, most within a mile of where they are now.
- Allow many to choose their roommates and sets of people to live with in modular housing up to 8 with shared spaces like bathrooms and kitchen.
- Cost $14,000 per person built and delivered. That's 2.5% of $565,000 per person units!
- Flexible, modular units arranged according to needs: medium to large complexes with extra support services for our most needy, and smaller, more independent complexes for our most capable.
- Short term rentals of empty lots will reduce construction costs for developers, having a small but broad effect of lowering new home prices and encouraging more housing creation citywide.
